12.13.08 - 2nd Meeting:
Kristen, Kai, Robin and Stephanie were in attendance. Stephanie facilitated.
Thanks to Lily, we have a mission statement. With a little tweaking, we have settled on the following mission statement:
The Northern California InterCorps Council supports and enables all local Americorps members to better serve their communities through social networking, agency collaboration, and professional development.
Please use this mission statement as a guideline when speaking about the ICC.
We also have two action items that came from the meeting.
First, we have decided to collaborate with The Valentine Peace Project (http://www.valentinepeaceproject.org/)for our first service-oriented project. This is an organization that strives to induce discussions of peace throughout our communities, our cities and the world. There are certain outreach tasks, prep day and day-of opportunities that we can engage in as individuals and as a group.
The project culminates on Saturday February 14, 2009 Valentine's Day. Through poetry, sharing and public reflection The Valentine Peace Project encourages a creative dialogue on Peace leading up to the worldwide love holiday. The event will get press.
Please e-mail me if you'd like to see what can be done for this project! Please get involved, even if it is only a small amount. We can really start to build our organization through involvement!
We picked the Valentine Peace Project because it is service-oriented, but not too heavy in terms of subject matter. It also sounds pretty fun.
Second, we threw around the idea to have a social gathering the second week of January. We were thinking Roller Disco. Any suggestions!?
We have a website now!! Please contact me if you'd like to be listed on the website! Please visit it and make suggestions: http://iccnorcal.cfsites.org.

Also in attendance: Becca Herman & Annie Suzio-Granett of Hands On Bay Area; Lily Abt of Rebuilding Together; Dana Josephs, Kristen Colbern, Christine Ingram, and Stephanie Tague of First Five San Mateo. Minutes created by Stephanie Tague.
The purpose of the ICC was discussed:
Leadership opportunities – we will define leadership positions and opportunities at the next meeting.
Resource sharing – trainings, community resources, etc. The creation of a standardized letter of definition for members to use when explaining our unusual circumstances (eg. For potential landlords, etc.)
Partnerships and collaborations – networking, utilizing members’ host sites’ services.
Social - Several members advocated for a more informal, social group. Members cited the need for social support during service, especially during the early months of new members’ terms.
Service – service projects that bring us all together.
To promote both the name and mission of AmeriCorps.
To advocate for its members.
What is needed to form an ICC?
Contacting “higher ups” for support, especially with recruitment of other area AmeriCorps members.
Identifying a mission statement – Lily Abt will develop several possible mission statements to be considered by members. A mission statement will be chosen by the next meeting.
